Sunday Church School
Sunday mornings from September through early May, 10:00-10:50am, interactive and engaging Christian education is offered for children and youth of all ages. All are welcome. Childcare is available beginning at 9:45am for parents who desire to attend adult Christian education.
Children age 3 through grade 5 gather in broadly grade classrooms and engage the Biblical stories through crafts, songs, games, drama, and various other activities. Students also periodically participate in Christ service projects.
Classes meet in the lower lever Christian Education Wing.
Children and Worship
Children are always welcome in worship. To assist families in worshiping together, children’s bulletins are available from the ushers, worship activity bags are available on the wooden cart in the narthex, a children’s play area is available in Fellowship Hall where the service is live streamed, and a nursery is available downstairs for parents with infants and toddlers.
On the first, second, third, and fifth Sundays of the month, children age 3 through 2nd grade are also welcome downstairs for their own Children’s Worship program following “A Time for Young Disciples” in worship. Children continue their worship through Bible storytelling, games, song, and creative activities.
On the fourth Sunday of the month, children remain in the sanctuary so we may all worship together.
Bridges To Worship
Each fall, third-graders and their parents are invited to learn more about each element of worship through games and activities.
Topics covered include
- Call to Worship & the Sanctuary
- Prayer of Confession & Assurance of Pardon/Gloria Patri
- Affirmation of Faith/Apostles Creed
- Baptism & Communion
- Prayers of the People, Lord’s Prayer, Offering and Doxology, & Benediction
At the conclusion of this enrichment opportunity, the third-grade children are presented with a Bible in celebration of their growth in faith and involvement in the life of the church.
Kids’ Christian Community Service Camp
In the summer, we host a fun-filled week for children which combines Bible-based EDUCATION with Christian SERVICE as we work together to prepare and deliver gifts to people in our local communities in need of company, emotional support, and/or basic needs.
Each September, on the Sunday following Labor Day, we kick-off the school year in style! We celebrate with special activities for young and old. On this day, we celebrate another year of Sunday School and other educational opportunities as well as the friendship and joy that comes from being part of the PPC family. Past activities have included a dunk tank, bounce house, face painting, cake walk, pizza picnic, and more.
Children’s Christmas Pageant
During the season of Advent, the children of the church give the entire church family an amazing gift by bringing the Christmas story to life through Scripture, song, and drama.
Easter Egg Hunt
On Easter morning, the church family is invited outside to celebrate the new life in Christ through the symbol of eggs—which bring forth new life in their own way. The children are invited to gather eggs filled with reminders of God’s great gift of new life in Christ and a few sweets while youth and parents serve as guides and provide encouragement.
Religious Awards for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts
Through the P.R.A.Y. program, our congregation’s Scouts complete the requirements to earn the various awards for the Presbyterian denomination. These include the God and Me Award, God and Country, God and Church, and God and Life.
The Children’s Choir, under the direction of Tom Andrew, Director of Music, sings monthly in worship. The choir rehearses Sundays after worship, 12:15pm, and is open to children in kindergarten through fifth grade.
