A Ministry of Compassion and Service

deaconThe ministry of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, or anyone in distress. Persons of spiritual character, honest repute, exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, sincere compassion, and sound judgment should be chosen for this ministry. Book of Order G-2.0201

The Deacons of Potomac Presbyterian Church are ordained Christian servants who serve the church through a ministry of compassion and service. We are an active ministry of twelve caregivers. We reach out to fellow congregants and help them connect with the Church, and we reach out to those in need and provide support.

Each Deacon cares for the needs of about 20 to 25 individuals and families, our “Deacon Groups”, throughout the year. Other examples of our ministry include:

  • Service on the Fellowship Committee
  • Service on the Congregational Care Committee
  • Monthly Deacon planning meetings
  • Serving communion
  • Care packages for our college students
  • Care packages for work camp volunteers
  • Deacon coffee hours
  • The Williamsburg Breakfast
